This spoiler tells exactly what you should not do to adhere to the voluntary
challenges or conducts. If you can still stop doing something before it is to
late, it is stated (see genocide.) If doing something has a chance of less than
100% to break a conduct, that chance is given. Note that chances may depend on
level, dungeon level, luck etc; see other spoilers for exact chances.

To be vegetarian, refrain
from:
- Eating a corpse of a non-vegetarian monster
- Eating a tinned corpse of a non-vegetarian monster
- Eating objects made of leather, bone or dragon hide (if that were
possible)
- Eating a brain of a non-vegetarian monster while polymorphed into a mind
flayer
- Digesting a non-vegetarian monster while polymorphed into a monster with a
digest attack
Vegetarian monsters are not monsters that don't eat meat, but are the
following:
- all vegan monsters (see next section)
- all P except black pudding
To follow a strict vegan
diet:
Be vegetarian, plus refrain from:
- Eating objects made of wax
- Eating eggs, pancakes, fortune cookies, candy bars or royal jelly
Vegan monsters are the following:
- all b, all j, all F;
- all v, all y;
- all E except stalkers;
- all ' except flesh golems and leather golems,
- and all ghosts.
Only b, j and F leave corpses to eat. (Some of these are not advisable to
eat, of course, but they're all vegan.)
To go without food:
Be vegan, plus refrain from:
- Eating anything else
- Chewing on a wall, door or boulder when polymorphed into a monster that
can
Atheism
To be an atheist, refrain from:
- Dropping an object on an altar while not blind ("You see a <color>
flash")
- Sacrificing
- Praying
- Turning undead as a priest or a knight, whether your god listens or not.
- #chatting to a priest (even if he doesn't listen)
To never hit with a wielded weapon, refrain from:
- Hitting with a wielded weapon (surprise!)
Note that grappling hooks, pick-axes and unicorn horns, though under "tools"
in your inventory, count as wielded weapons.
Also note that throwing or shooting things does not break this conduct, nor
does hitting with a non-weapon (e.g. a banana.)
To be a pacifist, refrain from:
- Killing monsters yourself (you can hit them!)
To be illiterate, refrain from:
- Eating fortune cookies while not blind
- Engraving anything else than x or X
- Reading a fortune cookie
- Reading a T-shirt
- Reading a scroll other than blank paper
- Reading a spellbook other than blank paper or the Book of the Dead
- Trying to write a scroll or spellbook, other than blank paper or the Book
of the Dead (which is impossible anyway)
To not genocide any monster, answer "none" when asked what to genocide.
Genocide may be granted:
- By reading a (blessed or uncursed) scroll of genocide
- By sitting on a throne (less than 2%.)
To never polymorph an object,
refrain from:
- Polymorphing an object by dipping it into a potion of polymorph
- Polymorphing an object by zapping a wand or spell of polymorph at it
Note that by zapping a spell or wand at a monster, objects it drops may be
polymorphed.
To never change form,
either get the Unchanging intrinsic (by wearing an amulet of unchanging), with
which you never polymorph; or get polymorph control (by wearing a ring of
polymorph control) and answer <you own race> to the question "Become what
kind of monster?"; or refrain from:
- Changing into the animal-form of a werecreature (with polymorph control
you can stay your own race)
- Getting polymorph intrinsic (unless the game ends before your first
change)
- Eating a chameleon or doppelganger
- Drinking from a sink (5% chance)
- Quaffing a potion of polymorph
- Getting hit by a thrown potion of polymorph while not magic resistant
- Stepping onto a polymorph trap while not magic resistant
- Being zapped with a wand or spell of polymorph
To use no wishes, specify
"nothing" when a wish is granted. You may get wishes from:
- Drinking from fountains (a water demon might grant you a wish, less than
20% chance)
- Drinking smoky potions (a djinni might grant you a wish, less than 8%
chance of one appearing, 80% chance of a wish if the potion was blessed)
- Sitting on thrones with luck greater than -5 (5% chance)
- Zapping a wand of wishing with luck greater than -5
- Engraving with a wand of wishing with luck greater than -5
- Rubbing a magic lamp (a djinni might grant you a wish, 33% chance of one
appearing, 80% chance of a wish if the lamp was blessed)
To not wish for
artifacts, refrain from:
